Vol. I: Enculturation (Remastered)

by A Constant Knowledge of Death

/
1.
Cause and effect
2.
Skin growing cold Thoughts unforetold Bloom, fate's decree My end, I finally see Arise Disfigure Your eyes To blind you from this world of terror Your death is just a moment away You live your life in fear of future pain Trapped in this body Comfort becomes mute Unfathomable Fear of the unknown
3.
Enter the delusion Paths become limitless The past becomes infinite Future becomes obsolete Time, a vision never spoken Life, a dream never awoken Pain, a mystery abandoned Pleasure, constant taken for granted Lay down your reality Lay down your freedom
4.
Breathe Take a break from thoughtless drivel Asinine opinions A plague on thoughtful rhetoric We have all succumbed Our every word is superficial And every judgment Is selfish in its intent Which is better? Which is worse? Which am I? What is expected? What is believed? Where do I stand now? Wipe your mind Clear your throat Speak
5.
6.
And so we're seeing now How damaged culture is And so we're feeling now Our own rebirth begin
7.
I can't even comprehend what's going through your head right now Open up Talk to me Let me in Break down the walls Break down the walls And I'll try and try again Because the soul you hide is one that shine and blossom with life But you Keep your heart cold Keep your heart cold Pushing away Pushing further away You separate yourself The burning of our mended bridges Structures disintegrate You are loved You are understood

This record is the culmination of over 2 years of dedicated songwriting, recording and production. Songs that each of us wrote, but never had homes for, came together to form this concept album about culture, individualism and identity.

The band started as "Exiles & Vagrants" in 2012 with Aaron and myself. We recruited two other people and wrote an EP intending to play live, but conflicts in scheduling and the quick departure of those two left us hopeless. A year went by without any activity.

Aki and I are very close friends and have collaborated in the past. I approached her about turning the band into a collective, in which each member would contribute individually written songs to be collected into volumes and released together under the same name. "Exiles & Vagrants" was shortened to "Vagrants," and then later changed to the name it is now.

The biggest issue we now faced was geography; Aaron and I lived in Southern California and Aki lived in Miami, Florida for college. During the winter of 2013-2014, Aki came home for the holidays and we spent every night for several weeks recording all the guitars, bass and vocals. We planned to record one album but ended up with so much material that we split it in two, the second half of which eventually became 'Vol. II: Organic Emotions.'

The next year went by slowly. We recruited our mutual friend Mark Rivas to record drums for us over the summer, and afterwards began production. This ended up being extremely difficult due to the time constraints of college, work, and the limitations of online communication, but we finally finished in January of 2015.
